From the Pastor’s Desk.....

I extend my thanks to all of you who participated in our special Advent projects, -- the “Giving Tree” at St. Mary’s, and the “Angel Tree” at Sacred Heart.  The gifts which you donated have gone to our parishioners who are homebound, or in nursing homes; to clients of the Caring Kitchen; and to other needy families. Special thanks to June Walser of our St. Vincent Guild, and to Rachelle King, a Senior at Catholic Central High, for coordinating the “Giving Tree” project.   Also, due to your generosity, we were again able to make gifts of $1000. from each of our parishes to the Champaign Christmas Fund, which purchased and distributed gift cards for needy families throughout the county.

I am also grateful to all of you who contributed to our “Fight the Crocodiles” Fund for our friend Fr. Thomas Bamutaze in Uganda.  I am thrilled to report that our P.S.R students collected $290 in “spare change”!  And other parishioners donated $270; for a grand total of $560.  I know that Fr. Thomas will be very grateful.  Our donations will allow him to purchase life vests, for use by himself and the other ministers and their crew of canoeists, on their perilous journeys over the waters of Lake Victoria.  Whatever amount remains will no doubt be put to good use by Fr. Thomas toward the many material needs which he has there (no electricity, and no running water!).

I certainly hope that all of us have become more watchful and more alert for our Emmanuel during this Advent season, such that we will now be able to celebrate our annual feast of His Nativity with great joy.  May the peace of the Christ Child fill your hearts and your homes throughout the coming year!

Christmas blessings,

Father Konerman
